The races m connection .with the Gisborne Rowing Club's President's Fours ' were con- ' tinued on ttie 'Ta'Tuheru river on Saturday j evening. H. V. B. C. Jeffries, A. i Gardner and H. v Froser' beat R. Miller, H. J. Alley, L. Bright ' i&ntl H.'^Muir 4ft«r a closelycontested race. Haniilton ■ began to draw away . soon after the starts and cleared the Roebuck road bridge a clear length m front of his . opponent. Miller 'put in 'a bid, and lilthough considerably decreasing the gap failed to overtake Hamilton by half a length. Thfe other, race was between R. Pycroft, J. Pollock, M. j Oman and H. Mayhard, and I. J. .Qiiigley, G. Perry, B. C. Evans and B. Sweet. The latter made a poor start, and , Pycroft soon assumed the lead, but QiiigJey came on strongly and passed the big bridge on even terms witli Pycroft. - After clearing the footbridge the ( latter drew away by a bare length, which he ! maintained to the finish. . > The following crews have been selected to represent the Gisborne Club m the Colley and Co.'s Shield -cdmpetition : — Seniors, V.' H. Hamilton (stroke) and C. R. Moore (bow); juniors, A. G. Gerrard (str) and H. Alley (bow); ten stone, N. de Lautour (str) and R. Pycroft (bow); youths, R. Miller* (str) and J. Winter.
