BLAZE ON A TRAIN.
(Per Press Association.) OAMARU, last night. A mixed train carrying tAventy cases of motor spirits, had" a narroAV escape from disaster on the journey up from Dunedin'; to-day. After passing through the Otepopo tunnel and before arriving ■at f Herbert station it was discovered that some of tho spirit that had escaped from the tins Avas on fire. The stationmaster, Avith seA r eral other raihvay hands and a stranger, entered the Avaggon at considerable risk to themselves and removed the cases, throAving those that were leaking ahd cases, that., were burning over the /' bank •.. and covering them over Avith earth and shingle. Only about fourteen sound. cases were found. Only for the prompt action of the men a serious disaster might have occurred.
