COMING BAND CONTEST.

A largely 'attended meeting of the Citizens' Executive in connection with the jcoming band contest was held in the Cosmopolitan Club last evening, the Mayor (Mr Wm. Pettie). presiding. It was announced that, the annual meeting of the NortK Island Brass Bands Association would be held in the Borough Council Chambers during contest week, and *hat a large number, of members had signified t,neir intention of attending- An offer from Mr G. Smith to supply the materials for suitable platforms at the Park was thankfully received, and it was stated that suitable arrangements had also been made for the erection of a stand at Victoria Domain to v accommodate the bands during the playing of the ' test selections, Major Evans offered the| use of a canvas room at the Domain for j the .convenience' of the executive, and ( this offer was also gratefully accented. I Majbrs Beere and Evans were appointed a committee to select military officials in connection with the quick-step competition^ and Messrs M. L. Foster anU J. WeTSster were appointed judges in connection ..with the inspection, of instruments. The finance committee was asked tof make arrangements for the provision of a booth at the Park for the sale of refreshments. It was agreed to retain a shorthand writer for the convenience of the Judge, and also an accompanist for .the soloists. Messrs Samson and Bloore were .asked to arrange for a supply of badges' for the officials. It was decided to forward a vote of thanks to Messrs E. Smitfh and Co., London, through Lieut. Herd, their agent in Wellington, for the donation- of a beautiful march to be played by the massed bands at the conclusion of the reception on Monday, February 12. A similar vote .of thanks w|j»' accorded to Mr W. Lane, of Hastings, for the donation o£ a silver cornet to the winner. of the cornet solo competition. The secretary anounced that a further number of entries had been received hi the solo, trio and quartet competitions. The, last entry" to be received was that of Mr H . McCaskill (euphonium) an ex-City bandsman. Season tickets have now been issued and may be obtained at any of the stationers'.shops or from the members of the executive. ,
