MAX , SERTOUSLY INJURED AT RAKAUROA. A, very serious accident occurred 1 at Rakauroa to-day, and the victim — a. carter named Harry Field— seems to have had a miraculous escane from being killed outright. Field, who is m ithe employ of the Public Works Department, was, it appears, driving a dray practically empty along a narrow portion of Oliver road, about half a, mile from the store, when his horse shied violently and capsized the dr;iy right over the side of the road, where it was precipitated to the bottom qf the steen cliff, some 70ft m height. . * . Field was thrown clear of ithe dray, but received very serious and painful injuries to his back, m addition to being* badly bruised. all over. Mr C. E.. Armstrong, the Resident Eingineer, was communicated with, and he at once made all the necessary arrangements for (the transport of the unfortunate man to town by this evening's train. The injured man will be taken to the public hospiital on the arrival of the train m town.
