LONDON WOOL SALES.
KEEN COMPETITION AND GOOD PRICES. (Press Assn. — By Telegraph.— Copyright.) (Received January 18, 8.5 a.m.) LONDON, January 17. The wool sales continue animated and firm, with prices at opening rates. WELLINGTON, this day. The Department of Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated January 17, regarding the opening of the first series of colonial wool sales: — "Wool sides have commenced and there is great competition. The Americans are buying medium crossbreds, and the prospects are favorable/ The market for merino is firm, but prices have advanced fov crossbred. The market is higher all round by per lb. than last sale. There are 45,900 bales of New Zealand wools available.
