TUGS FAIL TO HOLD MAMMOTH LINER. STEAMER SETTLES IN MUD. (Press Assn.— By Telegraph.— Copyright.) , (Received December 8, 8.5 a.m.) LONDON, December 7. During a hurricane that was particularly violent m the Mersey, the steamer Mauretania parted her anchors. The 31,938-ton vessel drifted for a mile, despite the assistance of several tugs, and settled m a mud and sand bottom.
