'. DUNEDIX, this day. A - sitting of ' the Tramway Appeal Board was held yesterday to consider an 'appeal : by John Fitzpatrick, conductor oil" the city electric ' trams, against his dismissal. Fitzpatrick was dismissed on September 1 ; for an unsatisfactory record I'^1 '^ especially on the ground that he had made a serious charge, without the slightest foundation, against Inspector Golden, and that he made contradictory statements to the manager (Mr Alexander). The Board 'was composed of Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M. (chairman), Cr J. J. Mallow (representing the Tramways Department), and Mr W. Belcher (representing the Tramways Union). The facts Avere that one morning two girls overrode' the distance for which they had paid, and this was discovered by the inspector when he had boarded the car: In his report Fitzpatrick accused Golden of making a false statement when he said that one girl paid by means of a concession ticket. It. was also admitted that appellant made contradictory statements to the manager over the matter. Fitzpatrick had been twice previously dismissed, once for drunkenness and oh the second occasion for breaking a promise to abstain from, liquor. Appellant said he considered Golden had ,on it previous occasion done his' best to get him dismissed. He contended the punishment was too severe. The Board reserved its decision..
