MENTS
(From our -Parliamentary ueportpr.)
WELLINGTON, this day. A matter, of .considerable.. importance to persons taking up land under the lease, from Maori Land Boards was discussed m the House yesterday. The attention of the prime* Minister was directed by Mr Jennings to the position of certain settlers m the King Country, who had taken up leases from the Maniapoto Maori Land Board. The leases contained no provisions for payment for improvements., and the result Avas the settlers were unable to obtain financial assistance from lending institutions. :
The Prime "Minister said the matter Avas an important one, and it was a question > whether Parliament should mandatorily require Maori Land Boards to provide* for the .payment of improvements m their leases. In his opinion they should, and thus ensure that persons taking up these leases could obtain the financial assistance they required.
