In declaring tho Gisborne Bowling Club's green open for the season yesterday afternoon, the president, Mr W. Pettie, said he had hoped that on that occasion some other man would have been in his position, but through the kindness of his fellow members he still had the honor of being president. He extended n hearty welcome to all present. He was delighted to see such a large number present, especially of their lady friends. They had had a distinguished visitor with them that afternoon, Bishop Cleary, but he had apologised for be-, ing unable to ' remain for the opening ceremony. Mr Pettie also expressed pleasure at seeing so many visiting bowlers present, especially representatives from their sister club, and he hoped the good feeling that existed between them would continue. He congratulated the green committee (Messrs Corson and I.Greig) and the cnrelaker (Mr,."|jentel]) upon the splendid condition of tin* j green. The president concluded by bespeaking a happy time during the season, and said, he hoped tin members would attend the green as often as possible. Finn, vice-president, addod that he hoped the' ladies would make that the scene of many pleasant "at homes."'
