At the Police Court, Jean Garter, 'proprietress of the Mansion*, one of < th© largest boarding-houses m Auckland, wa^ charged on two informations with selling liquor without a license, at was admitted that tho boarders Were gupplied with liquor by Mrs Citrter,, . for which they paid cash. IVo constables were so supplied. This was followed by a police raid, when 195 bottles of beer and stout and a quantity of wine were found on tho premises. It was admitted that the proprietress was a. respectable woman and the houße well conducted. H was pleaded that there were none of the usual elements of blvgrog selling, but Mr Cutten, &.M!., held that there had boen a very palpable breach of tho law, and imposed the maximum penalty of £50 on one charge.
