Mr Beeby told a deputation that he would place domestic servants on the schedule, to enable them to apply to the Wages Board. Referring to a cable stating that Australia was borrowing twenty-seven millions, Mr Carmichael, an honorary State Minister, declared that New South Wales did not contemplate early borrowing on the London market. Money was flowing freely into the Treasury from local sources. The Labor Conference discussed a motion censuring Mr N. R. Neilsen, Minister for Lands, for expressing his intention to proceed with the . sale of Crown lands at Marenbra, being a distinct breach of the vital plank of the Labor party. Mr Neilsen, who was present, explained that he was against the sale of Crown lands. He wanted time to develop a policy. The motion was amended to one of regret that tho Minister had departed from the leasehold principle, even to a small degree. Mr McDonnell, Chief Secretary, holds a different view from Mr Carmichael regarding the finances. He told a deputation asking for a country hospital that the Government is feeling the financial pinch, and that more money will have to be raised. He referred to taxation, such as stamp duties, charges on transfers, and cheques remitted by the previous Government, which were not anticipated. They were losing a million and a quarter annually in Customs excise revenue. The present Government could do with that taxation. MELBOURNE, February 10.
