MR MARCHANT'S VIEWS.
' Interviewed to-day, Mr F. W. Marchant, . C.E., ;said his; survey, of the. Napier harbor was made some four' years ago. When m Napier a week or two back' he made particular inquiries^ concerning the Tarawera case, and the evidence given to him by responsible people eritirely supported the harbormaster's (Captain Lake's) statement, namely, that the vessel'fouled the Auck,' land rock itself, and that there *is no other shoal at all. ,Mr Marchant could riot say 'what 'soundings now exist there, but from his knowledge of Vthe place lie believes. them to be unchanged, as they showed very little change m a long period^ pf years prior to his survey. .7
