CONCILIATION.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. After a preliminary, but abortive at-tempt-to secure a friendly settlement ol the dispute betAveen workers:, m hotel** and their employers, the representativesof the parties concerned met' again yesterday morning before the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr P. Hally. Their object Avas to discuss the demands put forward by their Avorkers, through theii -'union, for the betterment of the couditipns of • Avork and the rate of Adages... [The employers A\ r ei*c' ".represented by Messrs John Beveridge (Grand hotel), and Francis MeParland- (Hotel Qecil). The representatives oft* 1 the emiiloyees were Messrs E. J. Carey (secretary of the Wellington Cooks and Waiters' Union), Thomas Long (representing thc Hotel and Restaurant Employees' Union of Auckland),' Thelyer, and" E. Mark. Mr Carey havnig set out the case .far the workers, the conference proceeded to discuss the. clauses seriatim. On the ,siibjept of holidays there was a general agreement, the demands really embodying the conditions generally prevailing at the present time. Tina other demands of the employees, dealing with hours, wages, and general' conditions were discussed m turn.- Finally the issue Avas .narrowed down to the' bedrock demands of the employees.
