COMMISSIONER OF TAXES.
THE RECENT INVESTIGATION.; (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. A very long discussion, continuing after midnight, took place in the House of Representatives concerning the item of £400, salary of Mr Peter Wright, Commissioner of Taxes and ValuerGeneral. .. Opposition- members complained that particulars of the recent investigation had not been placed before the House, and contended that the Government must have something to hide. Sir. Joseph, Ward replied , that the Supreme Court Judges' report. could hot bo presented, as it, would involve the disclosure of the private transactions of a number of taxpayers. , Mr Wright -moved that £5 bo struck off the salary of the Commissioner of Taxation as an indication that the House disapproved of the scant information supplied by ,tho Government to members in regard to the recent inquiry.
