The heads of the different departments met ..this morning to present Mi" Robertson with a case of silver mounted pipes. In making the presentation Mr D. McMillan, district road engineer' for HaAvke's Bay, said that after all ■ -their years together, he J felt very sorry indeed that Mr Robertson Avas seA'ering his connection with | the Roads Department, but' was pleased to ; see- him - promoted. Mr Robertson started, off scratch m Taranaki about 14 years ago, and anyone avlio Averit through the mill m those days, had more to go through than the young officers do now. Mr T. N. Brodrick, District Land Officer, on behalf of the Land and Survey Department, Avelcomed Mr Robertson to his staff. They Avere very fortunate m having secured Mr Robertson, Avho had such a thorough knowledge of the district. He had once been CroAvn Lands Ranger m Hawke's Bay for about three years, and tho speaker s recollections of his services there had made him, anxious if possible to get Mr Robertson back again. Mr Brodrick said he Avas also pleiused to hear that Mr Home had been chosen as Mr Robertson's successor, and felt quite sure that the friendly relations Avhich had existed between them would be continued. Mr Clare said his recollections of Mr Robertson m Napier Avere most pleasant, and he joined m Avishing him every success m his new sphere. Replying, Mr Robertson said he had been taken Aery much by surprise. In thanking them for the handsome gift and the nice things Avhich had been said, he said that he could not find sufficient words to express his feelings.
