ACROSS AUSTRALIA BY MOTOR CAR.
PORT ; DAPvWIN, August 21. The arrival of Messrs Dutton, Aunger, and Allchurch, m the< two Talbot cars, caused considerable i excitement -tli,is being the first car seen here. The car arrived, m splendid order;, and appeared to have suffered very little m the long and rough journey. '"""The motorists, hpAvever, were' -very, glad; that their, selfimposed task' lias "ended 1 , and express no anxiety to undertake such a" hazardous triji again. Territorians, who know the road traversed, express much surprise that a vehicle with such low-carriage .should have come through; safely, Avhere" great boulders, tree stumps, ant ills, and other serious obstacles to travellers abound, as they do on this end of the route. But Dutton appears to regard the sand hills as the, most serious difficulties encountered, arid he states that •until these are surmounted there will be no pleasure m the trip, and no chance of putting up good time. The new car, which has come Tight through from Adelaide, has accomplished the journey on the one set of_ tyres. The second car was railed from Pine Creek. Although this car had been exposed 'for ' severi 'month's under a tropical sun, and through 18 inches of tropical rain, the tyres Avere found partly inflated',, and only a few hours', overhaul Avas needed to. render it fit for the road. 1 arid it also has reached , here m comparatively good order. The motorists have all lost Aveight considerably, but are -well, with the exception of Mr (Allchurch, who sprained an' arm Avhen crossing the Adelaide river on. Tuesday.
