Tiie following statement has been filed with the Official Assignee (Ma* J. Coleman) by Percy John Lewis, bankrupt: "I arrived in Gisborne a little over three years ago. and for four montlis was employed on a station at Waimata Valley, and then went into the business of "a boarding-house keeper, practically the whole of my capital consisting of borrowed money. The business was not a success, and*: n May last I sold out to Mr J. G. Nicholls at a loss. Mr Nicholls subsequently brought an action against me in connection with the sale of the business, and judgment went against me for £68 6s 6d. I luud no money to employ counsel on my behalf, and was consequently at a disadvantage in conducting my cj'se. I was quite unable to pay the amount of the judgment, and" Mi' Nicholls. through the Court, petitioned to make' me a bankrupt. Since selling the boarding-house business 1 have assisted my wife in working a small dairy farm, owned by her." He much regretted the position in which he had been placed. He liad no offer to make. The list of unsecured creditors is : J. G. Nicholls, boarding-house keeper, £70, W. J. Cox and Co. £4 10s, K. Williams £5, and Alplia Sawmills Company 9s 6(1; total, £79 19s 6d. There are no assets.
