LATE CRICKET.

When Poverty Bay commenced their first innings after the luncheon adjournment in their match against Eden on tlie Domain to-day there was every appearance of a repetition of the local team's ; performance in the second inriings yesterday. J. Gibson and Young co omenced to bat to the bowling of Oliff and Murdock. The first two overs of each trundler were maidens, and during Murdock's third try Gibson's stumps were found ; 1 for 4. Harker joine-J Young, but was only in a' few minutes when he, too, was disposed of for lbw. A few more byss were made and the third wicket fell for 7 extras. W. Gibson was next man, but his partnership with Young did not last long, as latter was i disposed of without, making a run; 3 for 7. : Thus the first. three wickets were captured 'with the expense of f only 7. runs,,, which were all byes. The bowling was difficult to play, Murdock ?s ; deliveries being mostly shooters. When Howden, an old Auckland player, joined Gibson, the . position, took a change j, foi*. the. better, and this batsman stobk up to the • bowling well, and appeared to be quite : at home. He hit trie ball-all oyer, the field,' and made some ' ery pretty strokes. Hobson took Murdock's place at the bowling, but tbe change did not effect matters mucJi. Gibson also played carefully, and got in. some good strokes. His- blocking work was sound and he took no liberties with the bowlers. Soon after the half century had been made for the local eleven Oliff sent down a fast ball, which Howden attempted to slog, but missed, thus causing a separation; 4 for 52.
