THE GENERAL ELECTION.

APPLICATIONS. FOR ENROLMENT,

(Per Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, this day. : An examination of several of the electdral rolls now in course of preparation reveals that public interest in the next election is being awakened. Large numbers of applications for enrolment and from, other electorates are being dealt with daily, and registrars^ iri the city electorate particularly are kept hard at' work making the necessary alterations and additions. The alteration ,of boundaries has caused a great deal of confusion, and registrars complain that: they are put to no end of trouble answering enquiries from people who do not know •how they have been affected by the change. Two registrars who were approached yesterday by a Press reporter stated that the maps* supplied did not enable them to give information to people outside their own districts, beyond point, ing out that they could be ptit bri the roll in respect to which they were making application. They suggested that in the cities there should be a central bureau, at which information regarding the city and impinging country electorates should, be available for people desiring to enrol or transfer. It was; stated that the Government' does not intend to mak. a house-to-house, canvass this year, the reason _ suggested bein K that the ;work will -be 'thoroughly dorie by the contending parties. On the question of no-license, it. wa6 also suggested that these parties would, when the tiriie for hearing objections arrive, attend to the purging of the rolls, and a h ; nt was given that. there would be hundreds, if not thousands, of objections ori the city electorates.
