OBITUARY.

CHRISTCHURCH, this day. General regret is expressed at the death of Cuptain James Lancelot Berryman, which occurred on Saturday at his residence ?n Opawn. Captain Berrymiin, who was 50 years of age; was the third son of the late Rev James Wise Berryman, of Giles, Wisbech, England, and was a nephew of the late Hon. William Rolleston. He chose the seafaring profession, and was a cadet on the training ship H.M.S!. Worcester at the same time as the famous Admiral Togo and Captain J. Marciel, now superintendent of mercantile marine at Lyttelton. He was afterwards m the P. and O. Steam Navigation Company, the Shire Line, and the New Zealand Shipping Company. He retired from the sea several^years ago, and resided m Lyttelton, and afterwards at -Opawa: He had been ailing for some time, but only took to his bed on Thursday, and died suddenly on Saturday.
