The new tepid ;baths building at Christchurch are now practically finished, and is to be ready on Monday. On Monday (reports the Lyttelton Times) the bath was filled for the'first time. About six hours wore necessary to fill the big cement pool, which holds something like 145,000 gallons of water, and the same time wil£'be necessary to empty it. The Mater was very murky, due entirely to the fact that the first flow through the pipes carried with it a quantity of rust and sediment into the bath, m which there was aleo a goodly litter of foreign matter. In the west end of the building, on the ground floor, are situated the plunge baths, twelve m number, six on each side of the office, which is exactly facing the central entrance from Manchester street. Immediately inside the two entrances are the wasliing rooms. Fifty-six dressing rooms, each fitted, to comfortably accommodate one person, are erected on both sides of the main pool. The lighting arrangements m the main bathroom will consist principally of arc lamps, hung from the beams over the water. A large gallery circles the room on the upper floor level, and should provide seating for at least 500 persons, who will have an excellent view of any swim.' ming m the main bath. The tepid baths will probably be opened officially on 30th April'
