WELLINGTON, .this day. The 1 local Art Gallery was 1 burgled be^.' tween 5.30 on Saturday and 2.30 yesterday afternoon, and a famous landscape painting .by 3. W. Leader, R. A., stolen. The painting, which represents an English landscape (a view from Surrey hills), was on a canvas of about 4ft by sft, and was safe when the- gallery, Was closed on Saturday. Yesterday the frame was discovered m the .anteroom, 'with;, a dark lantern, jemmy, and other burglars' tools lying aroundv The picture was brought to Now Zealand by Mr A. Longdon with other English .works of .art for the recent New Zealand exhibition, and subsequentrly purchased by -'Mrs W. BU Rhodes, of Wellington,- for. about £600 and presented to the local gallery. ; •;':'•
