CORRESPONDENCE.

DR. BELL'S LECTURE

(To the Editor of the Herald.) Sir, — Will you permit me a few words m extension of the announcement m another column of.'-Dr. Bell's lecture at the Theatre, on Wednesday next. While children from the fourth' standard will be interested arid . be quite at home with Dr Bell, the 1 evening is much more than a children's evening. Dr Bell is one of the. modern school of advanced scientists who are engaged m capturing the ..unknown sources of. wealth for' the nations to which they belong. It- is alike '.the, aim arid the charm of , tliia ijscliool tliafc all its re-; sources are for; the peoples of the nations they serve and so t elpqucnce perspicuity ari<ji entortiunmerit are' enlisted to disseminate exact knowledge. Those who have been to Mt. Cook and have wondered at its secrets will find many solutions on Wednesday evening. Those who mean to pay that visit— and they should be everybody — will go with the riches of glacial Canada to compare with the New Zealand Alps. For the sake of the children and of our distinguished visitor, may I express a hope that the , dress circle on Wednesday evening will be full. The Governors hope during the winter to attract the services of one or two other eminent men for the Gisborne public, arid would be glad to feel by the interest shbwri on Wednesday that their efforts are felt to be m the; right directipn.— l am, etc.,
