— . ». — (Per Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, this day. In reference to the statement by * the Argus, Mr . Leitcli emphatically denies that the company offered to donate the amount of the fine. The ■ Gsey Star r says : "The manager, when interviewed 5 on the question last night, said he knew , nothing of the mutter, but had heard , tlie union had been informed, by Air J. 3 A. The miners . aro very emphatic in asserting that such i an offer was made, and desired" it to be made public. The Star gives an emphatic denial to the statement that the company had not ottered to pay half the fine. It states that the information to the union was contained in the following telegram : "The chairman of directors is willing to contribute half the amount of the fine providing the matter is eettkd forth- \ with." Mr J. A. McCuUough states that ' the Miners' Union has voted £50 and
• £20 weekly to assist the miners.
