Their contract *for the carriage of mails between Liverpool and Hong Kong would expire next April, and what the directors proposed to do is to construct two new vessels to meet the, needs of the Pacific service under tbe altered conditions, or to build two larger or faster boats than the two new Empresses for the Atlantic service, and put those two on to the Pacific run. Eighteen and a half knots from Vancouver to Brisbane, with coaling at Honolulu., worked in conjunction with their less than six days across the Atlantic, and nine days altogether to Vancouver, would put them within 24 days of Brisbane.
