WAIHIRERE METAL.

(To the Editor of the Herald.) Sir, — It was my privilege t\> enjoy /a day's outing at WaiMrere. on Show day, it being the first opportunity I liave had sinee 1 the opening up of this pleasant holiday resort for the purpose of securing metals for our streets. 1 had been led to suppose from the reports of Council meetings that metal was there m large quantities, and of very fair quality. Judge of my disappointment then when T found only a few" tons of spauls of very inferior quality, and not a yard of. good metal m sight on the face of the quarry. I also found that a large sum of money had been expended m making a road to — nowhere. Sir, I call upon the members of the Borough Council to visit this place, to see for themselves the reckless waste of the ratepayers' money. I maintain that there should have been no money spent on roads there at all, until it had been thoroughly prospected and proved beyond any reasonable doubt that "road metal," and not soft limestone, fit only for agricultural purposes, was there m quantities sufficient to 'pay for the large sum expended. — I am, etc., /' RATEPAYER,
