♦ (Per Prws Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. A six-roomed wooden house and furniture, the property of Jas. Pebbles, was totally destroyed by tire at North -East Valley yesterday. The insurances arc : Norwich Union £300, and New Zealand £140. The estimated loss over insurance is £260. Mrs Pebbles and son were the only occupants of the house at the time of the fire, which is supposed to have originated from a small tire m the dining-room. A lire occurred at Wren's, painters, Princes street, yesterday afternoon, doing damage to the extent of £50. A boy left a tin of turpentine and other material standing m a store at tho back of the premises, and a workman coming m, mistaking tho material for wuter, put on a. gas ring to boil for paste. The tin ignited and blazed fiercely, and the workman promptly took it off, pouring the contents into* a sink near by. The overflow from the tin set fire to some straw near "by, which blazed .up, setting tire to the roof and causing damage to the ornamental glass, etc. The insurance on the building, valued at £2000. are : Royal Exchange £450. Victoria £200, Liverpool Londion and Globe £200. The stock, valued at £2500, Avas insured m the United for £450, Australian Alliance £250, Northern £400, South British £200, and North Queensland £450.
