HASTINGS, this day. ■ Two Oftinauien, Sue Shim; and Sue i Chong, pleaded guilty at the Magistrate's Court this morning to charges of smoking and permitting opium .smoking on the premises, and were fined £3 and costs. The more serious charges of keeping opium and harboring smokers were adjourned until September 6th. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. In the Divorce Court Mr Justice Ci apman to-day m Hardie v. Hardie, husband's petition, on the grounds of misconduct, granted a decree nisi. In Preece v. Preece, wife's petition, for restitution of conjugal rights, an order was made. In Richards v. Richards, husband's petition, a decree nisi was granted. The husband was a widower with eight children and the wife with six. An amalgamation of the families caused unhappiness, and the wife left and set up a separate establishment. She refused to return to petitioner. Restitution of conjugal riglits was granted at a previous sitting. In the case of Johnston v. Johnston, wife's petition, on the grounds of misconduct, a decree nisi was granted. In Mary Jane Powers v. Wm. Powers, Powers is serving five years for assault on a little girl. The case was deferred, owing to the question of evidence. A decree nisi was granted m Wilson v. Wilson, on the plea of desertion. OAMARU, this day. . About the best rain experienced for two pears set m last night, and still continues general throughout the district. |
