Messrs J." A. Rogers and Co., 'Williamstqwn, Vie, writes: — "Last week the merits of Chamberlain's Pain Balm were again demonstrated locally. A customer of ours had a child very bad with mumps. One of our salesmen suggested giving, Chamberlain's Pain Balm a trial. This was done, and the balm applied— (NOT RUBBED IN)-and a flannel bandage was fastened about the throat and head during the night. By morning the acute pains caused by the swollen glands had disappeared, and, in a few dayß the mumps, had entirely gone. Letters were received by the last mail by the Taniriaki Petroleum Company strongly recommending the erection of part of a refinery plailt only ; one capable of putting through 250 -barrels per day and refining 1500 gallons of benzine or motor spirit, for which there is a great demand ; 3400 gallons of best kerosene and 500 gallons of second-grade (used for oil engines), and the balance to be stored for further distillation, and the making of lubricating oils and paraffin wax. This plant erected and ready for work would cost, with current expenditure, about two calls of 2s 6d per share. The matter lias not yet been fully discussed by the board, but it is improbable that anything will be done until either Nos. 2 and 3 is on oil, or both are on oil. Another attempt is to be made by the Christ-church City Council to purchase from the Bank of New Zealand a strip of land at the corner of Hereford and Colombo streets.
