DRAMATIC END TO HIS INDIAN

VISIT.

PESHAWAR, March 7. The Ameer had a dramatic leave-tak-ing this morning on starting ori his return journey to'Kab'ulT -';; He decorated; a : numberof officers with the "medals' of Afghanistan, expressing the hope that King Edward would permit them to wear them. He added*.— "Had I thought of. it. in time, I would have telegraphed arid asked his Majesty's permission before presenting them. ' A large number, of Afghan troops wer; awaiting the Ameer on the TJorder where his Majesty bade the Indian of ficers farewell. He then began reading ing a message to the Viceroy anu Com-mander-iri-Chief, but was so affected that he was unable to complete, arid the task was entrusted to an interpreter. -At the end, the Ameer said "Goodby," and mounting rapidly, set spurs to his horse and galloped away. ' _hs cavalry, wheeling into fours, followed hard after.

The following autograph message has ,been received from the Ameer of Afghanistan for publication: — ,' "In the name of God, "At the time of returning from my journey m India and re-entering Afghan territory," my tour, which has lasted sixty- four days, has given me so much pleasure that T cannot, find words to express it. Every, kindness and friendship have been shown to me by the Comman- ; der- in-Chief , and other military officers arid civil authorities of India.

„- "I have found them all friends of Afghanistan and of myself. lam able to declare that during this short tour I haye made more true friends for Afghanistan and for myself personally than I could have made m twenty years had I not come to India.

"I therefore to-day congratulate the Afghan nation arid my.elf on possessing such good friends. . This written messago of; mine will be communicated to Reuter's Agency for publication m the newspapers, for the information of the whole world. T !
