EAST COAST RAILWAY.
(Per Press Association.) TAURANGA. hist night. The Hon. J. A. Millar arrived here Ibis morning, and was interviewed by. the local Railway League regarding the fiast Coast railway. and' the. proposed Mauiaku-Te Puke line; (connecting the Tauranga district with the Rotoruu main line).
f Mr Millar said so many lines were m hand that he did not favor starting more until the present lines were completed to a paying point. Tlie completion of the Main Trunk line at the end of next year would release £300,000, and two other lines would also be' completed about that time. He* freely admitted that the East Coast was entitled- to railway communication. There were three alternative routes, but- he had heard that the surveyors were unable to find a practical route from the Motu.
Mr W. H. Hemes, M.H.R., stated that lie was through the route the other day, and that lie found that a suitable route had been found at a reasonable cost.
The Minister said it seemed advisable thiit they .should go m for the Mainaku line Hist. That was only a matter of 18 milee, and as coon as the Main Trunk line was completed he would do all lie could to assist the East Coast project.
