CAPE TO CAIRO OVERLAND.

■ . _ CAIRO, March 3. Mv A. F. Bory, a Swiss, has arrived m Cairo from. the Cape, having travelled overland. The trip took eight months from landing at Durban to the arrival m Cairo. 'Ihe actual journey across Central Africa from Chinde, at the mouth of the Zambesi, to Gondokoro, on the Nile, occupied six months, three of which were spent m tents. One thousand miles were covered on foot. There was no serious hardship or danger, the worst enemies mejf being, occasional bad water, mosquitoes; and fever. Mr Bory says he did not come across any wild heasts, although he heard tne roaring of lions several times. While at Kanazi, a vety pretty place overlooking Victoria Nyanza. he met the Sultan, who five years ago dressed m skins and lived m a rough hut. Now he inhabits a substantial . Luropean house, and wears a kind of uniform. He offered Mr Bory whisky and soda. The change had been brought about by the Uganda railway.
