PUBLIC SCHOOL SPORTS.

♦ ( The fourth annual sports of the Public Schools' Athletic Association were held at the Wuerengu-u-hika College grounds today. Although there was every appear-' ance of rain m the morning, the weather cleared,, and a fine day favored the gather- x mg. The College grounds, kindly placed as usual at the disposal of "the Association by the Rev. Mr Jennings, afforded ample scope for the day's proceedings. The 9 o'clock train from town conveyed about 300 juveniles, besides a large number of adults, to the field of action, and by the return train from Te Karaka the numbers were greatly aqgrnented. The secretary, Mr J. Kinder, assisted by a strong and energetic committee, was "untiring m his efforts to promote the success of the gathering. The events, of which there were 72, commenced soon after 11 o'clock, and were expeditiously run off during the day. The entries for the different races exceeded those of lust yjear by a large number, the country schools particularly being responsible for the increase. Some very good racing took place, and m tire senior events some dose and exciting finishes were witnessed. Ihe Rev. MiG rant and Messrs F. Parker £• £ 9iV% ,J G - E,liofc > w - F - Anderson, tr. K.
