POISON IN THE CHALICE.
-:o : i ATTEMPT TO KILL PRESIDENT CASTRO'S BROTHER. PARIS, February 27. A NeAV York telegram to the Matin reports that an attempt has been made to poison the Archbishop of Venezuela by mixing poison Avith the communion Avine. As the Archbishop is the brother of President Castro, the latter is greatly excited, and fears that his own life may yet.be attempted. The President, hoAvever, has not diminished his truculence, and is threaten : ing to "humilitatc ' Franco, smash -the Monroe Doctrine, drive the French from Venezuela, and expel with them tho English, Americans, and Germans, Avho arc" worse than the Chinese."
