At the wool eales there was brisk competition for best greasies, which touched Is lid. WELLINGTON, last night, Tho Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram lrom the High Commissioner: Tho mutton market is a shade weaker, competition among River Plate holders affecting the market very ncriously. The average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4£d per lb, of which there is a very limited supply. Tlie average price to-day for other North ' Island mutton is 3j}d per lb. The butter market lias declined, there being less demand. Buyers are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. The price of choicest New Zealand butter to-day is 114s per cwt, DauLih 119s, Australian Ills, Siberian 108s. Tho cheese murkct is .quiet, but holders are firm. The market prospects are uncertain. The present market quotation is 63s per cwt. The cocksfoot i_cd market is linn. Tho average price for hvigijit, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed •weighing 171 b per bushel on spot- to-day is 535. A few inquiries aro being made by siieculalivc buyers for cocksfoot seed. ' The wool market is .steady, and prices are well maintained.
