NELSON'S CENTENARY.

One of the features of the Trafalgar centenary (says an English paper) is to be the raising of a one million shilling memorial fund, the proceeds of which are to bo devoted,' among other things, to Nelson free beds, Nelson free scholarships, Nelson reading room, Nelson award for* heroism, Nelson memorial m historic Malta, Nelson endowment, and extension of Jack's Palace. The Lords of the Admiraltj- have given the British und Foreigrr Sailors' Society, of which Vice-Admiral the Prince of Wales, K.G., is patron, the whole of the old muterial, oak and copper, taken from H.M.S. Victory, suitable for framing, and printed m red, wlrite, and blue* aud those collecting. 2s 6d for the Nelson centenary memorial will receive a Bouvenir m tlie shape of un illustrated Nelson centenary booklet, illustrated with pictures of Nelson, the Victory, and other nautical subjects; of King Edward VII. and Queeir Alexandra, und pictures specially given for this book, with autographs. It will illustrate duty to God, to King, to country, and to mankind. Every boy and. girl collecting not lea. than 5s for the furrd will receive a Nelson Victory memento, struck specially for the centenary year, and containing copper from H.M. ship Victory, a medal or hrooclr. Six shillings will entitle to the booklet m addition to the memento. All boys and girls who have given m tlieir collection to the master, mistress •or superintendent of their day or Sunday school, or* havo sent it to the society's head office, will receive tlie souvenirs on October 21, 1905, or as near that date as possible. Every town giving £50 and upwards, through its Mayor or Provost, will receive a piece of oak from the historic Victory, with a suitably-inscribed "brass plate, for town hall, museum or* leading room. A public school or institution giving the same amount will receive the same. A school collecting £5 5s and upwards, a small oak shield with a plate containing centenary Victory copper and suitable inscription; £10 10s and upwards, a Victoiy copper tray of special Victory design ; £25 and upwards, a very fine" shield of Victory copper mounted on oak; £50 and upwards will have a choice — a bust of Nelson containing Victory copper upon oak bracket, or a simple block of oak from the Victory, with copper- plate bearing a centenary inscription.
