The temperature readings at 9 a.m. today were :— Auckland... 60 Westport ...lines Gisborne ... 64 Greymouth ...down Napier ... 56 Bealey (2140 ft) 38 N.Plymouth 57 Christchurch... 46 Wanganui... 54 Timaru ... 46 Wellington 53 Oamaru ... 40 Blenheim... 49 Dunedin ... 43 Nelson ... 48 Invercargill ... 40 Captain Edwin forecasted at 12.30 today: — "Strong winds to gale from between north-west and west and southwest ; glass fall ; tides good ; sea considerable off shore ; rain probable." East Cape reported this morning a strong N.W. wind, barometer 29.90, thermometer 57, blue cloudy sky, moderate sea. North-westerly winds prevailed fairly generally to-day. The weather was fine, except at Auckland' and Timaru, where it was cloudy, and at Castlepoint, Cape Egmont and Farewell Spit, where passing showers fell. A thunderstorm with rain was experienced last night at Wellington. Heavy seas were running at Cape Egmont and Nuggete Point, and moderate seas at Castlepoint, New Plymouth, Cape Campbell and Farewell Spit.
