WOODVILLE ASSAULT CASE.

(Per Press Association.) WOODVTLLE. this day. The cases m which the Austral Bane* were concerned were heard) yesterday, occupying till past 5 o'clock. Great interest was taken m them. There were four charges. Eccles, driver of tho coach, was charged with striking a bandsman named Johns with a whip. ' The evidence was conflicting, but the Bench held tliat defendant was guilty of an assault, though a trivial one, and. fined him Is and costs. Eccles then charged Gore with using insulting language, but the charge was dismissed. Eccles and Johns were jointly, charged with a breach of tlie peace at the. railway station. The Bench decided that the latter was responsible for the trouble. They dismissed Eccles and fined Johns £2\iu'd costs, m default ten days. Bandsman Gower and Rosenberg, a civilian, were similarly charged. The Bench held that Gower was the aggressor, and' fined him £1 and costs, or seven days' imprisonment, and the other defendants 10s" and costs.
