(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Five seamen of the American barque Mary L. Cushing were remanded at the Court to-day on a charge of insubordination. The vessel put ifjto Auckland m distress. The- solicitor for the defence said he intended to prove that the vessel was unseaworthy and the pumps unable to overcome the leaks. STRATFORD, this day. At a public meeting last night, which was well attended, it was decided unanimously to hold an industrial exhibition here. A committee was set up to obtain a guarantee. . The poultry show opens to-morrow. There are large entries, and a good attendance is predicted. ■ WELLINGTON, this day. Two Chinamen, charged with having opium for smoking m their possession, were fined this morning £20 each, with costs. One of the defendants is a leper, now m quarantine. The Appeal Court is now dealing with the application of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company to rescind the order allowing Mitchell to appeal from the judgment of the Supreme Court m forma pauperis. Mr Bell, m support of the motion, contended that appellant could not obtain leave without paying costs on the first order, since abandoned tlirough inability to comply with the conditions as to time.
