Kleotrio Telegraph—Copyright—United Press Association LONDON, January 21. The first series of colonial wool sales for the current year opened with brisk bidding. Prices ruled from. par. to 10 per cent, advance on the closing sales of last year. At the wool sjiles 9965 bales of good selection, medium and inferiors were offered. Them was a. good attendance, including many Americans. There was spirited competition, for all sorts. Compared with the closing sales of the December series, merinos were unchanged. Merino lambs advanced 5 per cent. ; fine crossbreds advanced 5 per cent., medium 10 per cent., and lambs 10 per cent. SYDNEY, January 21. At the wool sales the competition, for all good classes was very keen, and prices were firm. Scoured sold to 25d, u. record for the season. NAPIER, last night. At the local wool sales to-day a catalogue of 6300 bales was offered. Prices were in sympathy with the advance in the Home market, and ruled from 10 to 15 per cent, higher than last sales' rates. Amongst the buyers were' three representatives of Continental firms. The advance was general in all classes, except for lialfbred parcels, the rougher and coarser wools benefiting most. Merinos sold up to 9d, good quality halfbrcd up to BJd, coarse crossbreds in light condition up to 6d, fair average quality up to s|}cV, dingy crossbreds up to sid. Mr M. F. Bourke last evening received the following cablegram from his London correspondents: —"Finest wools have advanced 5 to 7£ per cent., coarse wools 10 to 12j per cent." CHRISTCHURCH. last night. The Addington sales were held to-day. }- Fat cattle: 208 were yarded, mostly jfood sorts. The market was slightly Easier. Beef brought 26s to 28s, steers £8 7s 6d to £10 17s 6d,. heifers £5 7s 6d to £9 2s 6d, cows £5 17s 6d to £9 10s. Fat sheep : 4000 were yarded. Exporters had reduced limits, and an irregular sale resulted in a slight decline, especially for wethers. Wethers realised from 16s to 20s 6d, best ewes 15s 6cl to 17s, others 13s to 15s, merino wethers 12s 9cl to 14s lOd. Fat lambs: 3600 were yarded. The j)rice was slightly easier, except for . prime; freezers 13s 6d to 15s sd, others 10s to 13s. Stow sheep: 6691 were yarded, principally lambs. , There was a* good sale of all classes. \F6ur-tooLh wethers, principally North Island, brought 14s 7d to 15s 2d; two-tooths 11s 4d to 14s, fourtooth wethers and maiden ewes 14s 2d, six-tooth ewes 16s 3d, two-tooth 13s lid to 14s 6d, ewes and lambs all counted 7s to Bs, lambs 9s 5d to 11s 6d. j t Pigs: 300 were yarded. Fats were easier, but stores were in strong demand. Baconers brought from 40s to 55s or 4Jd ped Ib, porkers 20s to 30s or sd, large ■stores 20s to 355, smallers 15s to 17s, suckers 10s to 13s.
