FARMERS' UNION.

POVERTY BAY PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE. The Provincial Executive of the Poverty Bay Farmers' Union met at noon to-day, Mr Jas. Macfarlane (president) m the chair. Present : Messrs W. A. Hood (Ormond), Redpath (Motu), Bilham (Patutahi), C. J. Parker (Te Arai), and Bell (Gisborne). The Commissioner 'of Crown Lands notified m regard to a resolution of the- Union relative to rebates m rent Lhat no rebates had been allowed m Hawke's Bay. The following resolution was received from the Tolnga Bay branch :— "That m the opinion of this branch the time lias arrived when the Poverty Bay district should be constituted a separate land district, with a local Land Board." — Itwas decided, on the. motion of Mr Food, seconded by Mr Bell, to write to the local bodies m the district asking for their cooperation to obtain a Land Board for Gisborne, including the A. and P. Society, Liberal Association, and Chamber of Commerce. The Hon. J. Carroll wrote under date December 15th, 1902:— "I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the Ist' ult., with -which you enclose a c«2>y of 'Questions to Candidales.' Owing to my having to leave Gisborne. sooner than I anticipated I have not had time to reply before. Without responding m detail to tlie catechism submitted, I beg to assure you tliat I will do everything m my power to promote, the real interest of the farming community." Mr R. M. Bin-ell, of 'the Farmers' Club, notified that there was a deficit of £5 15s m connection with the social to the judges during Show week, half of which had been defrayed by the A. and P. Association, and the remaining half by the Farmers' Club. The same writer drew attention to the fact that the cost of the Parliamentary visit was £9 17s. The Gisborne branch had paid £5, and it was understood the country branches were to contribute the remainder. Regarding the social, it was decided that £1 8s 9d be contributed out of the Executive funds, and as to tlie expenses of the Parliamentary visit the branches to be written to and requested to contribute their share. The secretary stilted the Executive had £15 v Is 7d to their credit. It was resolved the Gisborne branch be informed tlmt they were m arrears m tiheir subscriptions, and also the branches to be informed that the fund for Mr Glass's testimonial closed shortly. A lengthy circular regarding the frozen meat trade was directed to be laid on the Farmers' Club table for consideration of members. The question of the appointment of a permanent secretary was left over till the annual meeting. Mr Parker urged that the -freezing works should be asked to take delivery of sheep at the owners' yards, and it was resolved to approach the works on the matter.
