POINTERS ON PORK.

: FACTS FOR FARMERS. At tlie anmual meeting of the North • Island Bacon Company, Limited, held at Palmerston North on Thursday, the directors' report showed that tire company's operations for the last year m the way of sales amounted to £15,964 16s, while pigs to the value of £10,000 were purchased. The operations were restricted _owing to the short supply of pigs, and, they were unable to execute large orders placed m their liands. The Chairman (Mr S. Bottom') stated that the directors, with a view of encouragmg dairy . farmers to fatten -pigs* had paid per 1b over contracting rales t for pork (the Aldington market tlflKg; the standard of values for fat stock)^ *jpresenting the sum of £678 paid to tie , company's suppliers over current rates. The company had' aimed at a standard of ' quality, j»rifch tiie result that farmers were now paying more attention to "the ginltema.ii that pays the i'hit" by improving their pig herds 'and giving belter attention to topping off. This was the first year's operations of tJie company as a joint stock business, and it was now m a position to pay spot cash to the farmer m place of the latter waiting for his monthly cheque from the co-operative company. The ■farmers appreciated the advantage of getting ttheir returns for pork paid, promptly. It was a great advantage to the dairy farmer to have m this way a certain market for his pork, and the encouragement given by the company to this valuable industry, and the guarantee to take all the suitable pigs he can produce had assisted to put the farming industry m this district m the front rank. The prospects of the dompauy for the ensuing year were most encouraging, they having; put through some 770 pigs during thisj V month up to date. .
