The Agricultural Department reports that the area under potatoes m t.'lie colony this year is 31,408 acres, an increase of 149 acres compared with last year. The steamer Kent will load at New Zealand ports for South Africa, under Government contract, during next month. The four leading ports have not yet been nominated by the contractors, and m any case will not be approved by tlie Government until the- 25th inst.
