Hie Whataupoko team are to be hiyhlv congratukted on their meritorious \vn! against Palmerston North, who had not earn played a magnificent game. Gisborne met Ponsonby, and after a splendid exhibition of bowling defeated them by 21 to 15. Hennessy was always there, when called upon. ;, McGowan's drawing well received great applause from the local bowlers. Gaudin played his usual brilliant, gams, saving his side repeatedly. Too much cannot be said of Ponsford's play throughout, it being acknowledged that he is the best general at the tournament. The Gisborue team have proved themselves a very popular one, a contemporary remarking that it was a treat to have the 'pleasure of a game with them. Thb bowlers are to be entertained at a smoke concert on Thursday night. Kaiti made a brilliant stand against Pahiatua, defeating them by 22 to 18. Robertson, leading, gave: his opponent* \s6me splendid shots to beat. Nicholas played exceptionally well, and Hams drew the jack repeatedly. Witty played with good judgment, thus winning a well-f ought-out game. PALMERSTON N., this day. The game of the tournament has just finished. It was the most exciting imaginable.' In the Upper Plains v. Palmer.stou, the former (a new club) ; gained a slight lead, and maintained it to the end of the game, when Palmerston was 12 and Upper Plains 15. All the players on the green were looking on, and they carried the winning skip— a clergyman, the Rev. Mr Earee — off the green with cheer "upon 1 cheer. This leaves Palmesrston with two losses, and Whataupoko has the same. Gisborne and Kaiti lost their matches tills morning., „ ' ~ |Per Press Association.'.
