Referring to the French, cruiser Protet — which has arrived at Sydney from Auckland — the Courier Australian, says : '•The visit of the Protet to Sydney is intended to be one of courtesy with a view to confirming the re-establishment of cordial relations between the French and the English, which were suspended for a time owing to the tone adopted by ! the Australian press and certain local | authorities m regard to the Dreyfus af- | fair, and the attitude of France m relation to the war m South Africa. The visit of the Protet is also intended, to be a4i acknowledgment of the sympathy shown to the French nation by the Australian people on the occosioh of the French fete held on July 14th lust, and also m acknowledgment «f the sympathy of the citizens of Sydney m regard to the Martiuique disaster."
