COOK COUNTY COUNCIL.

MANGATU ROAD. A deputation, consisting of three Mungatu settlers, Mr A. Heggarty, acting as ' spokesman, waited on the County Council this afternoon in regard to the work proposed to be done out of the Mangatu loan in the district. Mr Heggarty said that by taking it along the course proposed it would be a shorter road and cost less for construction, mid much less for maintenance. They asked that the Engineer might report on the formation of the road. The money they had was not a, large enough amount to curry the road to its proposed termination. If the work was carried out as suggested, a little metalling might also be done. It was decided that the Engineer should inspect the route of the proposed road, on the understanding that the cost of the survey would have to be borne by the loan. MOTU REQUIREMENTS. The Motu Farmers' Union informed the Council that it had been decided to ask Mr Carroll to obtain votes of £1500 for Neill road and £250 for Olliver road, and such sum for the main Ormond-Opotiki road as would suffice to extend the dray formation to the bridge (2j miles). The Clerk stated that these votes had been included in the list sent to the Government. . A request was received from the same Union for the use of the road machine to repair and reform the main Motu road between Poututu and Whakarau. ' The Maungalawa bush road needed grading at a certain point, estimated to cost £10. The Council had promised last year that the Engineer would report. It was pointed out that the rond machine could not be used at this time of the year. In regard to the Mnntratawa road, it was decided to attend to the matter when the Council were in funds.
