WELLINGTON, this day. Instructions have been given through tlie. .Minister of Education that the schools shall be closed throughout the colony on the Friday before Coronation Day. In the event of £500 being subscribed locally, the Government will contribute £10,000 to wipe off the deficit of the Otago University. This" was the intimation conveyed to the Otago and Southkind members on Tuesday. The fund was started by tha Dunediu Star with fifty guineas, and the following contributions have been made to the lists.- Mr Solomon 50 guineas, John Roberts £50, Justice Williams £20. The fund will be augmented by contributions from the Otago members of the Legislature.
