CYCLONE.

OVER 700 LIVES LOST.

A terrible shipping disaster, involving the loss of over 700 lives, is reported from Calcutta. The British-India steamer Crtimorta, a vessel of 2119 tons, whilst proceeding along the coast, was caught in a terrific ej'clone, during which she foundered, with all hands. According to the account to hand, she left Caliugapatiun on May 2, with the Coromandel Const, mails, and a small carg*> of 300 tons, and 650 native passengers. She was due at Rangoon on (lie 6th, the dute upon which tlie storm on tlie BuniKih coast commenced. The C'amorta should have been near her destination when she encountered the storm, but no tract; of her has. been found by the search steamers. A lifebuoy and a boom of a boat belonging to the steamer have been picked up. The following are the names of the officers of the Camorta : Commander, Captain E. McDougall; chief officer, C. Hays; second officer, E. White; third officer, D. McKillock; chief engineer, J. Hunter ; second engineer, J. Brown ; third engineer, R. Civile; fourth engineer, A. Colquhouin; clerk, E. Twidale; with 79 of a native crew. .Another vessel supposed to have been lost in the cyclone was the steamer Hermond. a Norwegian vessel, which left Bombay in ballast.
