TOWN EDITION.
The Coronation Committees meet at 7.30 sharp this evening. The North Island Bacon Company are now offering 4d per lb for- bacon -pigs. Tha-. Borough Council meet the H§rbor Board at 3.30 to-morrow afternoon at;.the Harbor Board Office to determine the site for the band rotunda. ■ ■ . Arrangements are being made for a run by bicyclists, with their machines decorated and illuminated, on Coronation night. Messrs. Redstone and Son's coach will leave Gisborne for Whatatutu on Wednesday next, at 10 a.m., leaving Whatatutu for Gisborne on the return trip at 3.30 p.m. the same day. At an inquest on the body of a young girl who died it- ■ Waipawa the other day, it was shown, that deceased had been in "ill-health for some time as the result of tight-lacing. By Saturday's steamer the G-isborne Cadets' new uniform arrived from Wellington. The uniforms are of blue serge, with white facings, the forage caps being of the same material. The costume is a very tasteful one. The boys parade tonight in their new rig-out. From Sir J. G. Ward's speech at Winton : "The unhappy and the thin-looking Minister of. Railways." And again: "When I feel compelled to refuse applications for railway works from various ■parts of the colony I am regarded as. the iron-hearted, flinted, steel-faced Minister of Railways." The friends of Mr John Murrell, New Zealand manager for Messrs. Huddart, Parker, and Co., will regret to learn that ill-health has compelled him to take an extended holiday. Mr Murrell has been granted three months' leave of absence. In the interval his duties will be undertaken by Mr Cecil Jones, of the Geelong branch of the company. "Patriotism" writes:—"Sir,—l am informed that the original proposal that the school children, on assembly at the school on Thursday, should march past the flag and salute, has been vetoed for some extraordinary reason. If so, I think the decision is a very unwise one, calling for some comment." * There was a good following at the run of the Poverty Bay Hounds over the town course on, Saturday afternoon- Mr J. A. Harding (Master) was in charge. Two spills occurred during the day, one being a remarkably narrow escape, the horse rolling over his rider, who was severely shaken. In the second mishap the horse, after losing his rider, continued to follow the other hunters, and finished well up. The next meet of the Club takes place at the Taruheru Freezing Works to-morrow. ' > We have been shown a specimen copy of a very interesting souvenir and official programme combined that is being published in connection with the Coronation celebrations in Gisborne, and for which there is sure to be an eager demand, .for, apart from its being a handy programme to the day's event*, it is a souvenir of a great function, and is at the same time the only official programme that is being published in connection with the day's proceedings. The booklet is particularly adapted for- transmission abroad as an indication of the Coronation happenings at Gisborne. As the publication is limited, orders should at once be sent in to Messrs. Crawford and Son and Adams.
