FARMERS' UNION.

POVERTY BAY EXECUTIVE

The executive of the Poverty Bay Farmers' Union met this afternoon in tlie Masonic Hotel, there being pref6l^ Messrs. W. A. Hood (in the chair), Jd. N. Lysnar, Wallis, Bell; and Lissant Clayton (secretary). Apologies for non-attendance were received from Messrs. Bilham and Hutchm-

Mr E. B. Thomson (Motu) resigned his delegateship on the executive, but stated that he would continue to further the interests of the Union. Mr G. Redpath had been appointed by the Motu branch as their delegate in his place. — On the motion of the Chairman, it was decided to admit Mr Redpath to the executive. The secretary reported that he hud written to the member for the district in regard to the treatment received by the Union from the Electric Lines Department, but had received no. reply. The report of the Committee in regard to the proposed Farmers' Club was read, giving. particulars of sets of rooms • at the disposal of the farmers, with the terms on which they were offered. They had obtained the names of 100 gentlemen who had promised to become members. The Committee advised that a vote be taken of members as to what the entrance fee and rate of subscriptions should be, as on these points would depend the rooms obtained.—Discussion took place on the report. Mr Lysnar moved and the Chairman seconded: "The Provisional Committee be given power to make all necessary arrangements^with the landlord'for rent, lighting, hring, and, if possible, to place a billiard-room for the use of the members of the Union, and that the executive being of opinion that it is impossible to successfully ran a Farmers' Union Club on the. basis of 5s subscriptions, that the secretary write to the branch secretaries asking them to enrol as many members for the Club as possible within a month and hand the names and subscriptions to. the secretary of the Provisional Committee (Mr L. Clayton)."—Carried. The Chairman moved and Mr Lysnar seconded:' "That the Provisional Committee be empowered to take all action necessary for the formation of the. Club, to draw up a list of rules, and call the first meeting."—Carried. . On th<te motion of Mr Clayton, seconded by the Chairman, it was decided that i'the resolution passed at the last meeting affecting the representation on the Colonial Council of Cook and Waiapu be so amended as to allow Wairoa and other outlying districts to join with us, if they desire.

Mr Lysnar moved, on behalf Gf the Waimata branch, and Mr Clayton seconded : "This branch considers it desirable that it be made perfectly clear that all money vo.ted by Parliament for local M'orka shall be used/ only for such specified works, and not diverted into other channels at the will of the Minister."— Carried.
